Country Club Living

If your family has an active lifestyle and you enjoy meeting new people and engaging in group activities, a membership at one of Tucson's social or country clubs may be the answer for you.

Over the years, we have had many clients join various country clubs, social clubs, and interest groups. Club memberships run from just over $100 a month to almost $1000 depending on which club you join. Most clubs have lower initiation rates for strictly social members and/or younger members under 45 years of age.

If you are a golfer and enjoy the outdoors, these country clubs are among the finest properties in the Tucson area. We sell homes in these neighborhoods all the time and know what the clubs offer residents as well as which country club may be your best fit. Here are some of the most popular options in Tucson, listed in no particular order.

Stone Canyon

Stone Canyon is one of the top high-end country clubs you can join in Tucson. Golf, fitness, tennis, and social events are all an option as a member of Stone Canyon. Stone Canyon sets the bar high with private, membership-only facilities, a new clubhouse and a sports bar. Initiation fees cost $5,000-$15,000 depending on which activities you want to participate in, and monthly dues run $800-$1200. Stone Canyon homes are designed as contemporary estates on the natural desert terrain surrounding Oro Valley. All of Stone Canyon is gated, with all lots over one acre in size.

La Paloma

La Paloma and Ventana are the two largest country clubs in Tucson. We don't know all the stats, but it is safe to say both clubs have the most members and highest-end amenities. (Stone Canyon and Dove Mountain are probably higher-end, but the membership is smaller.) La Paloma provides 27 Jack Nicklaus designed holes, resort pool, lap pool, fitness, tennis, and six dining options. Membership fees are comparable to Ventana with roughly $15,000 initation and $300-$900 a month in dues depending on your age and the activities you select.

La Paloma offers many different home sizes and types, from winter condos to estates with premium Catalina Foothills mountain views. If you want country club living in the middle of the Foothills, La Paloma may be your best option.

Hilton El Conquistador/ La Reserve

If you are looking for a resort pool with some social events but also want low monthly fees, the Hilton El Conquistador maybe for you. Heather and I are members. It allows our kids to swim in the three pools, including one with a large slide. We go to movie nights and meet other children and families. Fees are somewhat minimal at around $150 a month. No golf is included, but discounts on food and rooms is available to members.

The El Conquistador neighborhoods surrounding the Hilton resort primarily contain townhomes. Just behind those, along the mountains and beneath Pusch Ridge, is the La Reserve neighborhood which is one of Tucson's best kept secret neighborhoods. High-end homes, views, and uniqueness abound in La Reserve. Heather and I personally live in La Reserve and enjoy it immensely. La Reserve is gated as well, which adds some security to the neighborhood.

Oro Valley Country Club

The Oro valley Country Club is one of the smaller private country clubs in Tucson. It has been around since the late 1950's. OVCC provides 18 hole traditional golf, restaurant, member events, and golf tournaments throughout the year. Initiation is $2500-$10,000, with monthly fees ranging from $50-$700 a month. For a small golf-focused country club, Oro Valley Country Club provides quite a bit in a premium setting.

Since Oro Valley Country Club is one of the original country clubs in the Tucson area (I think the 3rd ever developed), the homes surrounding the club are a bit older. Here you will find many single-story brick ranches, mid-century moderns, and also some slump block territorial designs. Most of these homes have been completely redone. The neighborhood has seen a resurgence during the last 10 years as people have discovered what an amazing value it is. Older homes are being torn down, and new high-end luxury homes are being built in their place.

Tucson Country Club

Much like Oro Valley Country Club, Tucson Country Club is an older, well established club. Located on the east side of Tucson, the country club provides 18 holes, aquatic center, tennis, and family pool with a 97 foot water slide. Unfortunately, we have no past clients that are members of this club, so pricing and monthly dues info is not available to us currently.

Like the Oro Valley Country Club, Tucson Country Club has many older single-story homes for sale. These homes are generally not small, with many considered at mansion status. Developers are buying these homes and either rehabilitating them or knocking them down to build high-end luxury homes in their place.

Skyline Country Club

At one time the pinnacle of the Tucson country clubs, Skyline is still a viable club with a large clubhouse, 18 holes of premium golf nestled directly beneath the Catalina Mountains. Membership fees at Skyline Country Club are currently unknown.

Skyline was once the highest-end neighborhood in the Tucson area, but it has fallen a lot recently with older homes in serious need of updating. The Skyline golf course went through bankruptcy and was at risk of being completely shuttered until the homeowners of Skyline saved it by buying the property from lenders and instituting higher HOA fees to cover the costs of the club. Skyline is still an amazing neighborhood and provides an authentic, old Tucson lifestyle. There is nothing cookie cutter about Skyline. From the homes to the views, everything is one of a kind.

Forty Niner Country Club

Located on Tucson's far east side, the Forty Niners Country Club has been around a long time. Eighteen holes, fitness center, and a pool are part of the club, and fees to join are very reasonable. An annual membership runs $2200 for a single person and $2950 for a family. There are minimums for food and beverage as well as low cart fees.

Forty Niners homes are spacious. Most of them are on an acre, but like a lot of other older country club neighborhood homes, the styles have changed drastically. Most Forty Niners homes for sale are slump block territorials. Some of these homes have been significantly improved upon, while others are still mostly original.

Opened in 1998 by the MacMillan family, who are descendants of one of the wealthiest families ever in America -- the Cargil family. The Gallery homes for sale are some of the most contemporary bordering on modern in the Tucson area. Large estates and smaller McMansions can be found in the neighborhoods that make up The Gallery. Dove Mountain

The Ritz Carlton opened what has become one of their signature properties in Dove Mountain in 2009. If you are seeking the best environment for golf combined with premier service and amenities, joining the Dove Mountain Golf Club may be for you. The 27 holes designed by Jack Nicklaus are some of the most challenging we have ever played in the Tucson area. In our opinion, the Dove Mountain Golf Club is the pinnacle of the golf community in Tucson. Golf memberships are available, and while we don't have the latest costs for them, expect the initiation to be $10,000-$50,000 depending on member class and $500-$1000 per month in dues.

The Ritz Carlton is developing an exclusive neighborhood labeled The Residences at Ritz Carlton. These residences are some of the highest-end contemporary and southwest contemporary estates in all of Arizona. These homes are amazing and provide a world-class neighborhood, surroundings, and amenities all within walking distance of your front door. If you are in search of the best golf and a contemporary southwest home set in a pristine desert oasis, The Residences At Ritz Carlton should be highly considered.
