Where Is Casas Adobes Located?

Casas Adobes is not one single “neighborhood,” but a collection of many neighborhoods that combine to make up the Casas Adobes area. Ask around and everyone you ask will have a slightly different description of its physical location. Popular opinion, however, indicates that Casas Adobes is anchored at Ina and Oracle at the Casas Adobes Plaza. From there, the area goes as far north as Magee, ventures east to the Catalina Mountains (Oracle road closely borders this), west to La Cholla and as far south as Orange Grove.

The History Of Casas Adobes

The prevalence of the automobile in the 1920s initiated the outward growth of Tucson allowing home owners the ability to continue working the flourishing city while setting up residence the in the quieter and newly developing suburbs. Where today’s Casas Adobes real estate sits was once an area made up of large cattle ranches until in 1923, a rancher by the name of Maurice Reid came to the Tucson area and purchased a 1,500 acre ranch in Casas Adobes. Over time, the Reid’s ranch was portioned out and sold into what would become the neighborhoods that make up today’s Casas Adobes community. Many of these initial lots were over an acre in size and with many upper end homes being developed on these properties, became the hallmarks of the Casas Adobes community. Development and expansion of Casas Adobes continued when in the 1950s, a property investor by the name of Sam Nanini moved to Tucson and purchased and developed over 300 acres of land that included the Casas Adobes Plaza and as a result, the area began to be called “Casas Adobes” after Nanini’s successful developments.
